Patrick McGuire began writing about the challenges of creating and sharing music in the modern music industry in his late twenties before going on to explore a variety of other subjects including art, humor, travel, relationships, and healthcare. He has a knack for bringing a disarming sense of compassion and emotional awareness to interviews with subjects ranging from celebrities to business leaders. McGuire has interviewed songwriter Ray LaMontagne, comedian Hannibal Buress, and many other artists and performers. His articles have appeared in Slate and Variety, as well as numerous alt-weekly magazines and medical device business publications. He is also an expert in renewable energy and clean air grants, and recently traveled to Washington, DC to advocate for a proposal he authored lobbying the USDA to incentivize new industrial technologies in its Rural Development programming.

McGuire writes and performs intimate folk and alternative pop music as Straight White Teeth. His lo-fi folk song “Our Love Was Beautiful” has been featured in over 70,000 videos on TikTok, which have been collectively viewed hundreds of millions of times. In 2018, his melancholic ballad “Lifetime” charted at #6 on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic show in Los Angeles. McGuire has toured extensively across the United States as Straight White Teeth and with his former band Flashbulb Fires, and has shared stages with a diverse range of artists including Sharon Van Etten, Imagine Dragons, The Oh Hellos, and Minus The Bear.
